I have been meaning to take a progress pic the past 48 hours of our trailer's rear end so that you can see what we have accomplished in two 12-hour work days. This is the latest pic and it's not even rotated. Sorry folks, a progress pic doesn't warrant a rotation I guess. We have the whole back end framed and insulated. We used a rigid insulation the same thickness as the wood that has a foil looking stuff on one side (perhaps vapor barrier?). Today I need to fix a few odd spots then I can add one large vapor barrier, which will be a large piece of visqueen that we already have on hand. We do intend to complete this properly someday, but with are upcoming Yellowstone deadline, it will be done with a few non-life threatening shortcuts like this visqueen for example. The reason being that with the original construction, the pink insulation was in between all the wood and aluminum. Having used rigid insulation, that left the wood next to the aluminum.
LESSON: ALUMINUM SIDING CONDENSATES WITH MOISTURE ON THE INTERIOR WITH THE RISE AND FALL OF THE TEMPERATURE & HUMIDITY LEVELS (OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT). THAT CONDENSATION IS MOISTURE (WATER) THAT CAN DAMAGE WOOD IT SITS NEXT TO, LEADING TO ROT, MOLD, MILDEW, RUST AND OTHER BAD STUFF.
Hence...visqueen. And please, PLEASE if you think this or something else is a vital mistake, leave a comment. We leave in THREE DAYS! There is still time to warn us. OR you could leave us a comment wishing us good luck...we will need that too! With that luck, I can staple back on the aluminum pieces, after I give them a good wash and wax, and this will hopefully leave us in a position to tackle those back corners first thing Monday morning. There's gonna be A LOT of scraping and re-putty-ing goin' on! Update more soon, plus the rest of our second journey.
Happy Travels!
