Trailer Progress Day 2

I have been meaning to take a progress pic the past 48 hours of our trailer's rear end so that you can see what we have accomplished in two 12-hour work days. This is the latest pic and it's not even rotated. Sorry folks, a progress pic doesn't warrant a rotation I guess. We have the whole back end framed and insulated. We used a rigid insulation the same thickness as the wood that has a foil looking stuff on one side (perhaps vapor barrier?). Today I need to fix a few odd spots then I can add one large vapor barrier, which will be a large piece of visqueen that we already have on hand. We do intend to complete this properly someday, but with are upcoming Yellowstone deadline, it will be done with a few non-life threatening shortcuts like this visqueen for example. The reason being that with the original construction, the pink insulation was in between all the wood and aluminum. Having used rigid insulation, that left the wood next to the aluminum.

LESSON: ALUMINUM SIDING CONDENSATES WITH MOISTURE ON THE INTERIOR WITH THE RISE AND FALL OF THE TEMPERATURE & HUMIDITY LEVELS (OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT). THAT CONDENSATION IS MOISTURE (WATER) THAT CAN DAMAGE WOOD IT SITS NEXT TO, LEADING TO ROT, MOLD, MILDEW, RUST AND OTHER BAD STUFF.

Hence...visqueen. And please, PLEASE if you think this or something else is a vital mistake, leave a comment. We leave in THREE DAYS! There is still time to warn us. OR you could leave us a comment wishing us good luck...we will need that too! With that luck, I can staple back on the aluminum pieces, after I give them a good wash and wax, and this will hopefully leave us in a position to tackle those back corners first thing Monday morning. There's gonna be A LOT of scraping and re-putty-ing goin' on! Update more soon, plus the rest of our second journey.

Times Runnin' Out!

I have so many stories and experiences to tell regarding just this ONE travel trailer that we've owned for a wee two months. I still have our whole second journey to tell. But today I decided that I needed a quick progress pic of our 12 hour day yesterday. We leave next week for a week long Yellowstone trip but only have 48 hours with hubby home to tackle large fixes. Okay, maybe two pics...an overall pic kinda showing an in-progress of before...And one showing what we ended up at the end of the day before tarping it up for the night...Not too different looking is it?? I'm going to show the step-by-step process on how we accomplished this, but to give you a quick version, black water tank was replaced, floor was soft, didn't want to reinstall toilet on soft floor, tore out back end, opened Costco-size 'can of worms'.

However, if you're too excited to wait for my step-by-step tutorial, you can check out Mobiltecs YouTube videos on his '58 Deville Travel Trailer Renovation (series list link). He has done an AWESOME job walking the viewer through his renovation (and Mobiltec, if you're looking at that picture, yes it's half-assed because we only have 48 hours to accomplish something before our Yellowstone trip!). I'm only on YouTube video part 16 and I've learned enough to tackle this back corner of our trailer, well, with hubby's help of course. The long version of why and how is to come, but after the story of our second journey. All to come soon...very soon.
